How can I help?

Volunteers are essential to our program operations and are always looking for volunteers to assist us with packing food to be sent home with our MLBP participants.  To address food insecurity and child hunger, the MLBP provides students with food at the end of the school week for 35 weeks of the school year.  Packing is held on Thursday evenings at 4:45 PM at the Nehemiah Project building located at 1809 11th Street, Altoona, PA 16601.  If there is no school on Friday, packing nights will occur the night before the last day of the school week.

We welcome all who are interested in volunteering to join us on packing night, and pre-registration is not required.  We just ask that you complete a hold harmless waiver and sign in on the volunteer check-in sheet.  Children ages 8 and older are allowed to assist with packing, however, children under the age of 8 are welcome to come but are unable to participate in packing.

In the event of school closures, or inclement weather, announcements regarding packing night will be made on the Mountain Lion Backpack Program Facebook page.

For the health and safety of our volunteers if you are not feeling well, are sick, have  tested positive for COVID, please wait until another day to volunteer when you are feeling better.
